We make everything here in England, partnering with talented artisans and making every effort to minimise our environmental impact. 

Our lampshades are hand made from fine-quality card or cotton and decorated in our London studio using natural and low-VOC paint. These are carefully chosen to create a soft, warm glow - allowing each colour to feel beautiful both lit and unlit. 

To ensure a pleasing finish from every angle, the metal frames on the inside of the lampshades are made with an antique bronze finish to complement the Chocolate, Denim, Seville Orange and Paper Bag Brown lampshades. A neutral white frame is used for the pale cream collection. Bespoke frame colours are available on request. 

The Orb Lamp is made in England using sustainably sourced wood, finished with layers of lacquered paint and paired with British-made aged brass fittings. Each design has been created to pair beautifully with our lampshades.

For lampshades, the lead time is generally around three weeks. It can vary for different designs so please check the details on each product page. Our lamps are made in small batches, so will be dispatched within five working days after purchase.

If you need a quicker turnaround – do get in touch as we can often accommodate more urgent requests.

For bespoke pieces and larger projects, we’ll always agree on a delivery timeline at the beginning of the project.

Yes, we ship worldwide. Please contact us for shipping fees. International customers are responsible for payment of local duties/import taxes.

As all of our lampshades are handmade in England, we can make bespoke shapes too — please get in touch to discuss your requirements.

Standard Fittings: All of our lampshades are designed so that they fit both British (B22) and European (E27) bulb holders. They come with a fixed gimbal fitting and include a removable reducer ring—simply pop it out if your lamp has the larger European fitting.

Pendant Fittings: We also offer pendant fittings for lampshades designed to hang from the ceiling or be used with downward-facing wall lights. These also come with a removable reducer ring. Please note that bulb holders and fixtures are not included.

Candle Clip Fittings: Available for our XS lampshades (and others on request), these fittings sit directly onto the bulb, making them ideal for many wall sconces and chandeliers. We’d always recommend checking with the maker of your wall light to see what fitting they suggest.

Yes — in most cases, our lampshades work beautifully with rechargeable lamps. As these can vary slightly in size and fitting, we always recommend checking the specifications with the lamp’s maker before choosing the size and fitting for your lampshade. If you’re unsure, we’re always happy to advise — just get in touch and we can take a look together.

We’d always suggest checking with the maker of your wall light to see what fitting they recommend. Generally, downward-facing wall lights require a pendant fitting and upward-facing wall lights work with either our standard gimbal fitting or a candle clip fitting. 

Yes, we're able to make any of our lampshades with American fittings. Please get in touch via email to place your order.

As all of our lampshades are made to order, we’re unable to accept returns. If you're unsure which size to choose, our Size Guide has handy tips to help. We're also happy to answer any questions you might have.

If you'd like to see samples from our range, you're very welcome to visit our studio in Battersea, London. We can also post samples to trade clients—please contact hermione@humlondon.com to arrange this.

Lamps

Lamps from our main collection can be returned or exchanged within 14 days of delivery, provided they are in perfect condition and in their original packaging.

To keep your lamp or lampshade looking its best, use a clean, dry microfibre cloth or a feather duster to gently remove dust.
